Pine Grove Gondola

Pine Grove received railroad gondola car
The Flume Community Corner - January 5, 2018
For the first time in 80 years, the narrow gauge railroad is returning to Pine Grove.
The Pine-Elk Creek Improvement Association (PECIA) in Pine Grove received a donated gondola railcar on Saturday, Dec. 30 about noon. The open air railroad car is part of the Pine Grove History Park which is being created on property east of Fire Station 2 in Pine Grove. The 35-foot-long rail car was transported by truck, rolled off and onto re-installed rail tracks on the original narrow gauge rail bed that goes through the middle of town. Pine Grove was a major stop for the Denver, South Park and Pacific, later Colorado and Southern, narrow gauge railroad. Jim Jordon, president of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Heritage Society, coordinated the rail donation from Lindsey Ashby. The Denver, South Park and Pacific Historical Society in Como has helped lay the first set of railroad tracks.
